a forgery of roses review

a forgery of roses is another one of those conduit based magic books that i’ve recently discovered that i love. the characters use art as a way to alter someone’s appearance. in a forgery of roses, myra is hired to bring back a rich woman’s son from the dead. (with the promise of a lot of money, who could turn that down?).

the premise for this book sounded amazing, and the execution was on point. i wasn’t disappointed. the world building was immaculate. the magic and social systems were interesting and well explained. (i mean, you can heal someone or change their appearance just by painting them! how cool!).

this, coupled with the fast paced plot and excellent writing style, made the book difficult to put down. i wanted to keep reading, even though i had other things i needed to do. it was just that damn good.

now, the characters is where things get a little complicated. i loved myra (our magic wielding heroine) and her ill sister. i liked the drive protecting her sister gave her. our other characters is where things get interesting. while i liked most of them, i couldn’t help but be weary of everyone. i thought each person was going to turn around and stab her in the back.

because of this, i wasn’t surprised when someone actually did it. i knew they were fishy from the start!! (nevermind the fact that i thought everyone was fishy). so, technically i guessed the plot, but also not really.

honestly, i couldn’t recommend this book enough. if you like fantasy, please go and read it asap.

I really enjoyed this one also. I expected it to be more of a quiet book, but it suprised me at how muck I liked it.
