i just want to admit before we get started that i didn’t do much reading this april. definitely spent more time watching tv shows and listening to podcasts.

keep reading to see what i’ve been up to this month.

first thing’s first: here’s a breakdown of what i read during april.

ngl, i was disappointed with this book, but i think that’s because i was so excited after watching the shadow and bone tv show that i raised my expectations too high.

only after reading this book did i realise that there was a collectors edition of it. isn’t it beautiful???

crooked kingdom also has a similar cover but gold instead of red. they’re absolutely stunning.

after reading six of crows, i decided i couldn’t help myself and started king of scars. just fyi, DON’T read king of scars until you’ve finished crooked kingdom. i ruined so much for myself.

the book itself is pretty good so far, and you can expect a review in the next week or two.

as for the tv shows that i’ve been watching, i have smashed through quite a few but these are the noteworthy ones:

Set in the mid-1970s, the story follows Charles Sobhraj, a French serial killer of Indian and Vietnamese descent, as he drugs and robs travelers, particularly young backpackers, traveling through Bangkok, Thailand, along the overland. He steals his victims’ passports and identities to travel the world and sells stolen gems with girlfriend Marie-Andrée Leclerc. Charles Sobhraj is at the height of his crimes when a Dutch diplomat, Herman Knippenberg, begins investigating the murders of Dutch tourists and uncovers clues leading to Sobhraj.

the serpent was an entertaining watch, however it wasn’t that interesting. prior to watching, i hadn’t even heard of the people involved in it, so i can’t comment as to it’s authenticity, but it was boring enough that it felt real.

The series is centered around an afterlife in which humans are sent to “the Good Place” or “the Bad Place” after death: all humans are assigned a numerical score based on the morality of their conduct in life. Only those with the very highest scores are sent to the Good Place, where they enjoy eternal happiness with their every wish granted, guided by an artificial intelligence named Janet; all others experience an eternity of torture in the Bad Place.

lets just say i think i enjoyed the last season a lot more than i did for the rest of the show.

if you’re looking for something lighthearted and fun to watch, then this is it. it’s so nice to sit down and watch after a long day at work.

10/10 would recommend.

Ravka, a fantasy kingdom based on the Tsarist Russian Empire, is set in a war-torn world plagued by the Shadow Fold, a swath of permanent darkness separating East from West Ravka which is inhabited by carnivorous winged creatures known as Volcra. Orphan mapmaker Alina Starkov discovers that she is a Grisha (a magic-user) who possesses the power to create light, which could be the key to setting her country free from the Fold. Alina joins an elite army of Grisha serving under General Kirigan, the Shadow Summoner.

But as she struggles to hone her power, she finds that allies and enemies can be one and the same and that nothing in this lavish world is what it seems. There are dangerous forces at play, including a crew of charismatic criminals, and it will take more than magic to survive.

do i even need a summary for this one tho?

this show honestly blew me away. i was surprised by how good it was. the storyline was perfect, the casting was a+. i couldn’t have asked for a better adaptation.

Six months after being handed the mantle of Captain America at the end of Avengers: Endgame (2019),[3]Sam Wilson teams up with Bucky Barnes in a worldwide adventure that tests their abilities and their patience
