heart of the sun warrior review
you can read my review of daughter of the moon goddess (book one) here.
heart of the sun warrior is the final book in the daughter of the moon goddess duology, by sue lynn tan. it’s filled with beautiful prose and world building, much like the first book. i found it enjoyable learning about chinese culture and mythology through these books.
daughter of the moon goddess is one of the top books that i read last year. because of this, heart of the sun warrior had a lot to live up to. unfortunately, i found that the sequel wasn’t nearly as good. (although not as good, it was still a good read).
there was a few too many ‘boring bits’ that we could’ve gone without. i found the pacing to be inconsistent, resulting in some scenes being super fast paced while others bored me to death. despite that, i still really loved the action scenes and wished there were more of them.
the other thing that bothered me was the ending. it didn’t go how i thought it was going to and i felt rather dissatisfied by it. (re: romance and love interests).
on the plus side, i really enjoyed the character development of certain characters. i found it gave depth to those i had issues with in daughter of the moon goddess.
as with daughter of the moon goddess, i found that heart of the sun warrior features the same excellent plot twists. things you don’t expect to happen come true. it had me on the edge of my seat wondering what was going to happen next.
while it wasn’t the perfect book, i still think that the heart of the sun warrior was an interesting conclusion to the series.
