as a lone time lover of young adult fantasy, and a lover of standalones, i’ve decided to make a list of some standalone young adult fantasy recommendations for you to enjoy! feel free to add to the list in the comments.
these sorts of books are wonderful if you want to read fantasy, but don’t want the commitment of a full series.
please note, amazon affiliate links have been used.
the night circus – add it on goodreads – buy it on amazon
the starless sea – add it on goodreads – buy it on amazon
both by erin morgenstern
hunted – add it on goodreads – buy it on amazon
sherwood – add it on goodreads – buy it on amazon
both by meagan spooner
an enchantment of ravens – add it on goodreads – buy it on amazon
sorcery of thorns – add it on goodreads – buy it on amazon
a deal with the elf king – add it on goodreads – buy it on amazon
a dance with the fae prince – add it on goodreads – buy it on amazon
both by elise kova.
these two are special, because they’re technically a series but you don’t need to read the other books (they all read as standalones, just set in the same world!)

Thanks for the list! I love fantasy but sometimes I just need a one-shot-and-it’s-over type deal that provides closure rather than waiting for the next book for the closurem
definitely!! thatβs the main reason i made this list! sometimes itβs good for a break in the norm
I just bought House of salt and sorrow. can’t wait to get that and read it.
i hope you enjoy it!
Such a great list. It’s always so nice to see a list of stand alone books, for people who don’t have time, or don’t like series books.
agreed! i like to read books where the series is shorter due to time and not remembering the previous books π
Thank you for the recommendation β€οΈ
[…] going to tag Ally, Meaghan, and Chelsea. If anyone wants to do this feel free to consider yourself tagged by me! […]
Great Recommendation post! I also loved Cemetery Boys, Margaret Rogerson’s books and Hunted π₯°
i’m glad you enjoyed them!!
Agree with Cemetery Boys and Heartless!! Just reread Cemetery Boys, it was really good (well, I knew that already π)
Agree with Cemetery Boys and Heartless! Just re-read Cemetery Boys on audio and it was great!
ooh i want to try the audio for that one, i’ve heard it’s good!
It is! I think the narrator is the same for Thomas’s other book – Lost in the Never Woods.
i haven’t listened to that one either – i might do both, one after the other!
Lost in the Never Woods is great if you’re a Peter Pan/retelling fan and like mystery stories!
ooh i do!! thank you!
πππ welcome! I love Peter Pan and retellings!
Cemetery Boys is an amazing standalone, as are both of Margaret Rogerson’s first two novels. I love them so much. Great post!
thank you!!
