insomnia review

this is the first book i’ve read by sarah pinborough. i’ve heard many say i need to read her other book (behind her eyes) as there’s a character that pops up from it. (in no way did this bring down my reading experience – i didn’t even realise until later on that the character popped in).

insomnia takes a unique look at things. our main character, emma, is stressed about her upcoming 40th birthday. her mother had a psychotic break at this age, and emma felt she was headed in the same direction. emma ends up dealing with insomnia and paranoia (among other things). as someone who’s dealt with both, i found it a nice experience.

emma was an interesting character. i loved her, even when she got a little annoying in the middle. she felt like a realistic character with complex struggles. i found myself relating to her more often than not. (on the other hand, i wasn’t a big fan of her husband…)

all in all, insomnia was a fast paced read with loads of tension and suspension. considering this is the first book i’ve read by this author, i can easily see myself picking up more of her work.

This sounds like a fun book. I love thrillers. I’ll add this and Behind Her Eyes to my TBR. Thanks for the review. 🙂

if you plan on reading it, i suggest reading behind her eyes first (while it didn’t hinder my experience on bit, apparently there was a character cameo that i missed as i didn’t read the other one).
