oh boy! what a book!
to say i was creeped out is an understatement. i found myself having to close bedroom doors at night as i kept feeling like something was sitting outside, waiting for me to sleep.
horror hotel follows a group of youtubers who love to investigate the paranormal. the hearst hotel is based off the infamous cecil hotel (i recommend watching this video here if you’re interested to know more.)
the characters are always one of the most important parts of a book. in horror hotel, we have a few: chrissy, kiki, emma and chase. kiki was easily my favourite, mostly due to her flamboyant personality (she dresses so colourful, compared to the dark nature of the book).
chrissy is our main protagonist. she’s fairly likeable, but she does some things that i didn’t agree with (mainly in the name of instalove). emma and chase were both interesting. emma was more likeable, while chase was written more as an asshole (although he changed a lot by the end of the book).
this book is littered with diary entries of a woman who died at the hotel. these were my favourite part as they seemed so normal, but they illuded to something sinister.
overall, horror hotel was highly spooky but an excellent read. although i had a few minor issues with the book, i felt the creepiness made up for it.

I’m too much of a scardy cat to read horror, but I’m sure glad you enjoyed it, as I’m sure many other will too.
it’s books like these that make me a scardy cat too! most don’t scare me enough that i have to stop reading.
