wretched review

compared to scarred, wretched was a step up. it was way more enjoyable than the second book in the series. while my rating for wretched is the same as hooked, i found i liked hooked more. for those who struggle to see which retelling this is of, it’s wizard of oz (the only book i figured out on my own was hooked, everything else i had to google).

one of my favourite things about this one was that the “bad guy” was the female, instead of the typical male scenario’s we see. i thought it was refreshing and interesting.

another positive i had with this book was the fast paced nature. scarred was relatively slow compared to hooked and wretched. i prefer a fast paced/action packed book, and this was right up my alley.

while being fast paced, the author didn’t skimp on any of the important world building. i loved the setting and all the backstory we got. i didn’t find it lacked in history nor was it a pile of info dumping. it was the perfect amount.

as for the things i didn’t like, i found the spice got weird. the author explored some kinky stuff, which didn’t work for me. i’m sure there’s readers out there who’d love it, but it wasn’t for me.

i also didn’t really like the poetry scenes. i found them cringy and awkward.

as a whole though, i enjoyed this book. i’m eager to read the next installment when it comes out. i’m excited to see what the author does next.

I had no idea the books followed different retellings (i assumed they were all peter pan-related based on the first book), these books I can tell aren’t for me, but I enjoyed reading your review on this one! <3

i thought so too, but was surprised that they weren’t! i like that they’re not “typical” retellings (ie, cinderella, beauty and the beast etc).

these books aren’t for everyone – they have a very specific audience.
