gilded review

there have been quite a few dark germanic fairytale retellings lately, and I’m loving it! gilded is no exception.

set in an old german inspired village, gilded tells the story of serilda and the tales she tells.

gilded is a rumpelstiltskin retelling – which in itself, i found refreshing. aside from once upon a time (the us tv show) my knowledge of rumpelstiltskin is limited. i really enjoy retellings of lesser known fairytales. many of those cinderella and beauty and the beast ones are repetitive and boring.

i really enjoyed meyer’s twist on the original story – i felt she brought a lot of fresh ideas to the table, and she’s clearly done a lot of research.

the romance was the only thing that didn’t quite click for me, however it didn’t interfere with my reading experience.

overall, gilded is a fast paced, fresh fairytale retellings with many unique ideas and loveable characters. meyer did an incredible job with this one.
